As part of the competition organized by the Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN), on December 18, ENGIE Energía Peru was awarded the contract for three electrical transmission lines projects located in the regions of Ancash, Junin, and Ucayali, which will contribute to providing greater reliability and security in the country’s electricity supply. ENGIE Energía Perú will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the works, thus ensuring their long-term sustainability.

The award includes the construction of 170 kilometers of electrical transmission lines, the construction of 3 new substations, and the expansion of 4 existing stations: “220 kV Aguaytia – Pucallpa Link, substations, lines, and associated expansions (ITC Project)”, “138-60KV Reliability Increase of the Tarma-Chanchamayo Electrical System” and “Capacity and Reliability Increase (N-1 Criterion) of the Huaraz Electrical System (ITC Project)”. These projects are awarded under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality and will be executed with a concession period of 30 years of commercial operation, in addition to the time required for their construction.

“We are proud to develop this project, which will accelerate Peru’s energy transition by connecting new renewable electricity production sites to consumption areas. The project marks also a further step in the rebalancing of ENGIE networks activities from gas to electricity,” said Cécile Prévieu, Executive Vice President of ENGIE in charge of Networks activities.

“With this award we enter the Peruvian transmission lines sector. This is an important milestone for ENGIE’s activities in Peru, a country in which the Group has been present for 27 years. It consolidates our presence in the Peruvian energy sector, while confirming our long-term commitment to the country,” said El Mehdi Ben Maalla, Country Manager and CEO of ENGIE Energía Perú.

The ENGIE Group has robust experience in the power transmission sector with around 8,000 km of lines installed, under construction, or ready for development. In South America, including Brazil, Chile and Peru, the Group has a total of around 6,000 km of transmission lines in operation. Recently, in September 2024, ENGIE in Brazil obtained the concession to implement and operate around 1,000 kilometers of transmission lines located in the 5 regions of the south of the country.
